Welcome to Marbella Andalucia

Marbella sunset Marbella sunset

Marbella is one of the most beautiful and luxurious resort towns in Spain, with widespread, sandy and well maintained beaches; from Guadalmina in the west to Puerto Cabopino in the east.

The Marbella coastline stretches along some 26 kilometres of sunny wonderful beaches bathed by the Mediterranean.

Whether you want to play golf, relax on the beach, enjoy a range of water-sports, sip cocktails at a beach club or hang out with the rich and famous at the world renowned Puerto Banus, there is something for everyone.

The city of Marbella is situated approximately 50 kilometres from the west of Málaga with around 100,000 stable inhabitants, however in the summer months this swells to around 200,000.

Marbella is ideally situated for excursions, with so many beautiful regions in Andalucia to explore; Mijas, Ronda, Gibraltar, Granada and Seville are definitely worth a visit.  Ever wanted to spend the day in Africa?  Ferries run often between Algeciras and Tangier, or Algeciras and Ceuta, (journey time: 30 minutes and 1 hr 30 minutes.)

There are 7 ruins of watchtowers along the beaches, these are either Castilian or Muslim in origin and formed the defence of the coast upto the 19thCentury. The beaches stretch along its 21 km coastline.

The 18th century Church of Los Remedios in the Plaza de San Francisco was once a Franciscan monastery. The bull ring, on the outskirts of the town, has four museums in it one of which has has an interesting collection of bullfighting memorabilia. (There is no admission charge)

El Tintero Campero in Cátama

Cártama is divided into two zones, Cártama Pueblo and Cártama Estación situated in the Guadalhorce valley region only 20 kilometres from Málaga. The Phoenicians called the settlement Cartha (hidden city), and the Romans derived the name Cartima from this.

Places of interetest: The castle-fortress, San Pedro church, Nuestra Señora de los Remedios hermitage, Roman ruins, sixteenth century fountain and the museum Casa Museo González Marín.

There is a busy market on Sunday in Cártama Estación.

Worth a visit is the plate restaurant, El Tintero Campero which is a couple of minutes drive from Cártama. Its a great experience where the waiters walk around non-stop bearing dishes, you just point out what you want, at the end of the meal the waiter will calculate the bill by counting the empty dishes. Great for a group of people. It is noisy, fun and entertaining.

Cordoba, Mezquita de Córdoba, Sightseeing, Andalucia

An Iberian and Roman city in ancient times, in the Middle Ages it became the capital of the Islamic caliphate.

It has been estimated that in the 10th century and beginning of the 11th century, Córdoba was the most populous city in the world, and during these centuries became the intellectual center of Europe.Today it is a moderately-sized modern city; its population in 2008 was 325,453.

The gracious old town has the biggest and most labyrinthine old quarter in Spain containing monuments this old town spreads around its extraordinary Mosque on a bend in the River Guadalquivir.

The magnificent Mequita (Mosque) a symbol of a worldly and sophisticated Islamic culture begun in 785 and expanded and embellished during the following two centuries. At the very centre of the Mezquita stands the 1523 Renaissance cathedral, an intrusion that reflected Christian pride.

Córdoba's medieval Jewish quarter, the Juderia, surrounds the Mezquita and is a wonderful place to explore on foot, with plenty of bars and cafe's.

The most famous street in the area is known as Calleja de las Flores (Flower Alley) which gives a view of the Mezquita bell tower framed between the narrow white washed walls with pretty flower pots hanging from the walls.

The Main square of Córdoba is Plaza de las Tendillas, 500m north of the Mezquita, with the main shopping streets to the plaza's north and west. The train and bus stations are 1km northwest of Plaza de las Tendillas.

The Roman Bridge or Puente Romano over the Guadalquivir river that consists of 16 arcs with asymmetrical moulds. The view of this historical bridge can be more appreciated during the night, when illumination lends a romantic feel over the area.

There is so much to see and explore in Córdoba, it is definitely worth a day or weekend away.

Spain named cheapest holiday destination for 2011

Lovemoney

By Rachel Wait

If you’re off on holiday soon, check out the cheapest holiday destinations this year...

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably dreaming of sun, sea and sand right now. After all, it’s the time of year when many of us start to think about jetting off for a much-deserved break.
However, let’s not forget that money is a little tight right now, and holidays aren’t exactly cheap. Fortunately, if you’re still hoping to get away this year and you’re trying to keep to a strict budget, the Post Office has just released the results from its latest Holiday Costs Barometer highlighting the cheapest holiday destinations this year. So let’s take a look.

The cheapest destinations

The Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer looks at the price of ten popular tourist items, including dinner for two, refreshments, insect repellent, and suncream, in 14 destinations across the globe.
According to its calculations, families looking for the cheapest holiday should head to Spain, which has come out as the cheapest holiday resort destination for 2011, after the basket of ten items came to £42.15. This is 15% less than 2010’s top destination, Portugal, which has been pushed from first to third place by Spain and Bulgaria.
Prices in Spain have been slashed in a bid to win back UK holidaymakers after levels dropped on the back of the recession.
Meanwhile, if you’re planning to head to either Greece or Turkey for your holiday, you’re also in luck because prices in these two countries have also taken a plunge.
Following on from a disappointing 2010, Greece has had to cut costs, with bars and restaurants in the top island resort of Corfu having slashed prices by 10%. This has meant Greece is now the fourth cheapest holiday resort destination.
Turkey has taken the fifth spot after prices there fell by 15% - the largest price fall out of all 14 destinations surveyed. Indeed, the price of a three-course evening meal for two in top Turkish resort, Marmaris, has dropped by a massive 23%! A stronger UK pound against the Turkish lira has also influenced this.

Costly breaks

In contrast, Miami in the USA came out as the most expensive resort destination, where a three-course evening meal for two would set you back an average of £65.79 – over £42 more what it would cost you in Spain!
Italy was the second most expensive holiday destination, followed by France. Brighton in the UK also came in the top five most expensive holiday destinations on the back of rising meal costs and increased VAT.

A closer look

The table below shows how much a typical basket of good costs in various popular destinations (this runs from the cheapest to most expensive). The basket includes coffee, beer, cola, water, suncream, postcard and stamp to UK, insect repellent, cigarettes, English tabloid newspaper, and a three-course evening meal for two, including wine.
